Peak Performance in Sports
In the sports arena, top performance in sports has always been a much sought after condition by players and coaches at all levels. Whether the athletes are football players for schoolboys or Olympians striving for their gold medals, top performances in sports have always attracted athletes and coaches alike. In our modern age of sports, where sports science is at a stratospheric level and rising, what are the factors that, when used properly, can lead athletes to achieve maximum performance in sports? Are there secrets behind sporting expertise? Are these factors easily manipulated for the benefit of the athletes? This article discusses the factors that can lead athletes and coaches to maximum performance in sports.
There have been many articles and books describing principles, programs, success factors and the like that can lead to top performance in sports. Many authors have written extensively about them, and in many ways the principles and factors are universal. The principles of progressive resistance, variation, goal-specific training, recovery, etc. are all undisputed underlying causes that allow athletes to achieve top performance in sports. This article goes a step further by exploring these universal factors in a different light. In the process, I hope to give both athletes and coaches how to apply these principles in practice, and what factors are there with a higher weighting in terms of achieving success and highest performance in sports.
There are basically two sets of factors we need to examine. Technical and human factors. Let us first look at the previous set of factors;
Technical factors
1. Quality preparation
2. Mastery of individual skills
3. High fitness levels
4. Understanding overall team play
5. Filling the team's key positions
6. Minimize errors in games
1. Quality preparation
The hard work of any sports season begins with training in the preseason, which is very intense. No body likes this season as the work and training required is often very tedious and painful. But this must be done in order for the athletes to be optimally prepared for the tough competition. Endurance, strength, speed and skill volumes must be eSports.
Not only the workforce, but it is also very important how much quality is put into the preparation phase. When players cut corners and train at face value without their heart and soul, it appears later in the competition as fatigue, injury, or lack of sharpness in their performance. Highest performance in sports may not be possible under such circumstances. The quality of pre-season preparation is even more important in youth sports.
Very often in schools, the play season for many sports starts almost immediately when the school year starts. With our kids away on long vacations, our athletes often return to school to face competitions with very little training time. Team play, fitness building and mental preparation are supposed to be done in 2-3 weeks, which in a sports world is almost impossible and impractical.
This kind of preparation is also detrimental to our children's development. Under these circumstances, coaches and teachers (and if possible parents) have a very important responsibility to ensure that our athletes are well prepared for competition. Training programs for sports should be prepared and implemented by the end of the year earlier. Our athletes need to understand that their season effectively began once their graduation is over.
Once a training program has started, coaches and teachers can also instruct athletes about a holiday training program. Every athlete needs to have one whereby they can do something to improve their playing skills during their break from school. It can include things like maintaining a certain standard of fitness through endurance activities like cycling, running or swimming, playing catch and hitting in the backyard with their siblings or even individual practice to improve certain skills. The most important thing here is to preserve and improve what has been achieved in the previous season so that athletes do not return to school and start from scratch. Simply planning and training in this way will ensure quality preparation of the sports teams to achieve top performance in sports later.
